Mrinali Patel Gupta, MD now at Retina Associates of Orange County, in collaboration with colleagues from Weill Cornell Medical College (including former Michels award winners Szilard Kiss and RV Paul Chan) and from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, recently published a paper entitled "Ocular outcomes after treatment of cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis using adoptive immunotherapy with CMV-specific cytotoxic T-lymphocytes" in Ophthalmology Retina. The findings of this study suggest a potential role for CMV-specific T-cell therapy for CMV retinitis unresponsive to standard-of-care antiviral treatment. More broadly, this is the largest report to date of systemic cell-based adoptive immunotherapy for ocular disease. Further studies are ongoing. Posted:2021-06-14
